EElsa Marques Silva is a native of Porto. She began her musical studies at the age of six at the Academia de Música de Vilar do Paraíso. She studied at the Escola Superior de Música e das Artes do Espetáculo do Porto, where she joined the class of Professor Pedro Burmester. In 2000, she completed her master’s degree at the Hartt School of Music of the University of Hartford, USA, where she was a student of Professor Luíz de Moura Castro. She attended several international masterclasses under the guidance of professors such as Helena Sá e Costa, Dmitri Paperno, Vitalij Margulis, Boris Berezowsky, Tânia Achot, Nina Svetlanova, and Peter Eicher, among others.

She is a laureate of the following national competitions: Helena Costa Prize (2nd Prize), Estoril Interpretation Competition (2nd Prize), Prémio Jovens Músicos (2nd Prize), Covilhã Piano Competition (1st Prize). Internationally, she holds the “Concerto Awards – 1988 International Music Academy Piano Program” – Kromeriz, Czech Republic, was a finalist of the “Emerson Quartet Competition,” and obtained 2nd Prize at the “Young Artist Piano Competition,” Connecticut, USA.

She has performed as soloist with the Orquestra Nacional do Porto, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, Orquestra do Norte, Orquestra do Algarve, Orquestra Sinfónica da Póvoa de Varzim, Remix – Orquestra de Jovens, and Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, collaborating with conductors such as Meir Minsky, Ferreira Lobo, Osvaldo Ferreira, Nicholas Kok, Cesário Costa, Luís Carvalho, Jean-Marc Burfin, and Pedro Neves. She has given countless recitals, both solo and in chamber music formations, in Portugal (CCB, Palácio da Bolsa, University of Aveiro, Culturgest, Teatro Camões, Teatro Gil Vicente de Coimbra, Teatro Baltasar Dias – Madeira, etc.), Spain, France, United Kingdom, Germany, USA, Brazil, and Canada.

She has served as jury member for the Concurso Nacional de Piano Cidade de Gaia (2021, 2022), for the Prémio Jovens Músicos in the Chamber Music category (2019/2020), and for the Concurso de Piano da Póvoa de Varzim (2024). She is a member of the Sond’arte Electric Ensemble. She is a professor at the Academia de Música de Vilar do Paraíso and at ESMAE. She has dedicated particular attention to contemporary music, participating in numerous premieres of Portuguese and foreign composers.
