Vítor Vieira is a member of the Matosinhos String Quartet (QCM) and of the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble (SAEE), and professor at the Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espetáculo do Porto. With the QCM, he has performed in the main concert halls and festivals in Portugal and collaborated with prominent instrumentalists, such as pianists Pedro Burmester, António Rosado, and Miguel Borges Coelho, percussionist Pedro Carneiro, violists Tatjana Masurenko and Máté Szucs, and cellists Paulo Gaio Lima and Lázló Fenyö. Selected by the European Concert Hall Organization as a Rising Star of the 2014/15 season, the QCM undertook a tour of 16 concerts in some of the most important European concert halls, such as the Barbican Center in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Musikverein in Vienna. His students have been prizewinners in competitions such as the Helena Sá e Costa Prize, the Prémio Jovens Músicos, the Vasco Barbosa Competition, the Capela Competition, the International Competition Cidade do Fundão, and the Ilda Moura Prize.

Vítor Vieira studied with professors Alberto Gaio Lima, Aníbal Lima, and Gerardo Ribeiro, with whom he also worked as assistant at Northwestern University (Chicago). He also worked with professors such as Alexei Mikhline, Sergey Kravchenko, Eduard Wulfson, and Mauricio Fux. He pursued specialized string quartet studies with Rainer Schmidt, violinist of the Hagen Quartet, and worked with members of the Alban Berg, Lasalle, Melos, Emerson, and Vermeer quartets. He was a scholarship holder of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

He won 1st Prize in Violin at both intermediate and higher levels in the RDP Prémio Jovens Músicos competition. He was also winner of the Samuel Thaviu String Competition in Evanston, and of the NU Concerto Competition. He has appeared as soloist in some of the main concert halls in the country, namely the great auditoriums of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Centro Cultural de Belém, Culturgest, and Casa da Música, with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Orquestra Nacional do Porto, the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, and the Orquestra de Câmara Portuguesa.

Vítor Vieira is an enthusiast of contemporary music, having worked directly with composers such as John Adams and Karin Renquist. As a member of the QCM and the SAEE, he has premiered more than 60 works by Portuguese composers.
