Orquestra de Cordas da AMCC
Joseph Haydn – Divertimento for Strings in G Major, Hob. II:2
With the support of the Municipality of Porto, the Festival de Música Portuscal opens its second edition with an opening concert at the Auditorium of the Almeida Garrett Library. This concert affirms the renewal of the festival’s cultural and artistic programming within the city of Porto.
The concert will feature the String Orchestra of the Academia de Música de Costa Cabral, under the musical direction of Maestro Filipe Fonseca, in a programme that spans different styles and historical periods. The evening opens with Joseph Haydn’s Divertimento for Strings in G major, Hob. II:2, a work representative of the Viennese Classical style.
This is followed by the participation of violinist Matilde Margalho, winner of the Young Musicians Prize in 2023 and a Festival scholarship holder, performing the virtuosic Fantasy on Themes from “Faust” by Henryk Wieniawski, accompanied by the AMCC String Orchestra.
The concert concludes with Francis Poulenc’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, performed by Carlos Alves, soloist with the Porto Symphony Orchestra Casa da Música and professor at ESART, together with pianist Bernardo Soares.
