Vítor Vieira - Violin
Johann Sebastian Bach - Partita N.o 2, BWV 1004
Chaconne
With the support of the Municipality of Porto, this concert proposes a musical reflection on the passage of time and its expression through different languages, styles, and eras, placing Baroque repertoire in dialogue with contemporary creation. Presented in a dynamic and immersive format, spread across the various spaces of the Reservoir Museum, sound, echoes, and the movement of the audience come together in a singular experience, where music merges with space and architecture, creating a true performative work of art.
The programme opens with violinist Vítor Vieira, first violin of the Quarteto de Matosinhos, performing the Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004, by Johann Sebastian Bach. A timeless work of profound expressiveness, the Chaconne has transcended centuries as one of the cornerstones of the solo violin repertoire, revealing an impressive musical architecture and an emotional intensity that defies time.
This is followed by clarinettist Nuno Pinto, professor at ESMAE, performing Time Spell by João Pedro Oliveira, a work whose contemporary language explores new sonic dimensions through the use of electronics and boldly conceived timbral effects. This piece establishes a strong aesthetic and temporal contrast, inviting the audience to engage in active listening and to reflect on the perception of time in today’s music.
The concert concludes with cellist Benedict Kloeckner, an internationally acclaimed soloist, who will perform Suite No. 6 in D major, BWV 1012, by Johann Sebastian Bach. Considered the culmination of Bach’s cycle of solo cello suites, this work combines virtuosity with profound expressiveness, bringing the concert to a powerful and artistically intense conclusion, in one of the most dynamic programmes of the Festival de Música Portuscal.
